This is a report of a study, conducted on behalf of the Ontario Literacy Coalition, on the state of family literacy in Ontario. The study is designed to identify issues and gaps in the current family literacy infrastructure and to identify effective and sustainable options for family literacy delivery.
The purpose of the research outlined in this report was to examine the distribution of Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) learners in the city of Ottawa, Ontario, in order for the members of the Ottawa-Carleton Coalition for Literacy (OCCL) to coordinate service delivery and outreach efforts to most effectively reach their target audience.
The Ontario Literacy Coalition funded this research into the pay and working conditions of employees working in the literacy field in Ontario. The purpose of the research was to attain information on the level of pay and benefits literacy workers in all delivery sectors in Ontario were receiving, and to assess the level of working conditions in the literacy workplace.
