Summer in Smallywood Essential Skills - Facilitator's Guide (2011)

This facilitator’s guide introduces "Summer in Smallywood," a series of three online games with accompanying learning materials, designed to enhance the employability of young adult learners (ages 15-30) by improving their competence in three Essential Skills: oral communication; working with others; and thinking skills.

"Summer in Smallywood" is designed to be used in youth-focused settings like high school classrooms; employment and literacy programs; youth drop-in centres; and companies that employ young people.

In this document, the authors begin by explaining the rationale for the program. For each of the three targeted skills, they explain what the player will learn; offer suggestions for guiding group discussion; and provide a list of further online resources.
