Navigating Post-secondary Education in Canada: The Challenge of a Changing Landscape (2010)

In this paper, the Canadian Council on Learning (CCL) argues that the country needs a comprehensive framework that provides students with clear indications of the pathways they can take through the post-secondary education sector.

Canada’s post-secondary education sector is considerably more complex than what is often presented in media reports and research projects, the authors note. As the sector continues to evolve, its increasing complexity makes existing concepts and vocabulary obsolete, which puts uninformed students at risk of choosing inappropriate educational paths.

The authors contend that a framework for the post-secondary education sector could be developed by building on work already undertaken by Statistics Canada, the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada (CMEC), and the Canadian Information Centre for International Credentials (CICIC).
