Essential Skills at Work in the North Study Guide - Volume 2 (2012)

Designed for both adult educators and adult learners, this study guide offers learning activities to accompany the stories from the online tool “Essential Skills at Work in the North,” which can be found on the NWT Literacy Council’s website at http://www.nwt.literacy.ca.

Each story features a particular northern job, and describes the training and Essential Skills that people need for that work. The study guide includes the text for each story, but users can also opt to listen to the stories online.

The jobs profiled here are Aboriginal language instructor; administrative assistant; registered nurse; and renewable resources officer. As well, there is a story that focuses on someone who started her own business.

There are 12 learning activities for each job and the study guide includes instructor notes and learner handouts for each activity. Learners use one or more Essential Skill for each activity.
