Project Evaluation Report - Widening Access for Adult Literacies (2009)

The Widening Access for Adult Literacies project began in northeast Edmonton, Alberta, in 2005. In this report, the author evaluates the impact of the project both on individuals with literacy challenges and on community organizations.

For individuals, the benefits included enhanced literacy skills, greater confidence, and reduced isolation. Organizations reported increased understanding of the value of literacy in people’s lives, which in some instances prompted moves to reduce barriers faced by clients when accessing services.

Information for the report was collected through face-to-face and telephone interviews with individuals; group reflection sessions; participation in meetings; and a review of evaluative survey documents.
