Understanding Credit Ratings [Video 3:55] (2010)

This video tutorial is one of a series prepared for Credit Education Week Canada (CEWC), held annually to promote sound personal money management.

The host explains that there are two credit rating agencies in Canada -- Equifax and TransUnion. Each is a database of information received from creditors about individuals’ credit and payment history. Financial institutions use this information to decide whether to make a loan.

A bad credit rating can hold someone back from getting a car, a dream job, or even an apartment. To prevent that, it’s important to pay bills on time and to avoid taking on more credit than can be handled comfortably.
