The SCALES Directory of Literacy and Essential Skills Resources for Career Practitioners (2012)

The purpose of this directory is to help career practitioners by housing a wide selection of practical Essential Skills (ES) tools and resources, organized according to a career development process, in one place.

The directory is one of the resources developed through the Supporting the Canadian Advancement of Literacy and Essential Skills (SCALES) project, undertaken by CONNECT Strategic Alliances, representing Ontario’s 24 publicly funded colleges. It is intended to be downloaded from the CONNECT website onto the career practitioner’s computer.

The directory is divided into seven sections, with the first four sections focusing on ES resources to be used by participants either independently or with the assistance of a career practitioner. The resources are sorted by the SCALES four-stage career development process: assessing personal skills and gaining self-awareness; setting goals for education, work, and life; figuring out how to reach those goals; and implementing a personal action plan.

The remaining three sections include ES resources intended for career practitioners’ own use or to share with employers or colleagues.
