An Overview of the OALCF and Assessment - Webinar 1, presenter – Robyn Cook-Ritchie [Video – 2:02:47] (2012)

This is the first of two webinars hosted by Community Literacy of Ontario (CLO) to help practitioners prepare for the implementation of the Ontario Adult Literacy Curriculum Framework (OALCF), beginning in April 2012. The presenter is Robyn Cook-Ritchie, a Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) program manager and adult literacy consultant.

Topics covered in this two-hour webinar include the nature of assessment; effectiveness measures under the LBS performance management system; and the categories of assessment under OALCF.

As well, the presenter provides a detailed introduction to two OALCF tools: milestones, and culminating tasks. The 60 milestone tasks are standard progress indicators, aligned with the OALCF. They are goal-related assessment activities that will demonstrate learner achievement.

The six culminating tasks, also aligned with the OALCF, are more complex than milestone tasks. Successfully completing a culminating task will demonstrate that a learner can manage the kinds of tasks he will face once he moves beyond the LBS program.

The two-hour webinar was attended by representatives of more than 40 community-based, college, school board, and Native LBS programs in Ontario.
