Chart Aligning the Curriculum to the OALCF – Clerical (2013)

This chart is one component of the Bridging the Employment Gap program, developed by the Simcoe/Muskoka Literacy Network (SMLN) in Ontario.

The program consists of a series of occupational-related curricula, designed to help learners upgrade their literacy, numeracy and other essential skills within the context of an entry-level occupation. There are six manuals in the series: Clerical, Grounds Maintenance, Janitorial, Kitchen Help, Retail, and Ready for Work.

The project also created alignment charts for each curriculum, colour-coded to show the competencies, task group, and complexity levels for each of the activities or tasks in the curriculum. This allows practitioners to determine if a curriculum is suitable for a specific student or to select learning tasks based on specific competencies and complexity levels.

Each curriculum was aligned to the Essential Skills, as defined by Human Resources and Skills Development Canada (HRSDC). With the implementation of the Ontario Adult Literacy Curriculum Framework (OALCF), all the curriculum manuals have been aligned to the competencies, task groups, and complexity levels of the OALCF.

The OALCF is the cornerstone of Employment Ontario’s Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) program.

The Clerical material includes six main units, dealing with safety; collating; photocopying; preparing envelopes for mailing; taking phone messages; and making telephone calls.
