National Adult Literacy Database Inc. – 2008 - 2009 Annual Report: Building community (2009)

The National Adult Literacy Database’s (NALD’s) annual report for 2008-2009 highlights the organization’s participation in a number of national initiatives.

The year began with NALD’s participation in the Pan-Canadian Interactive Literacy Forum hosted in several major cities by the Council of Ministers of Education, Canada, and concluded with NALD’s support of cross-Canada consultations for a National Strategy for Early Literacy, an initiative of the Canadian Language and Literacy Research Network.

The year also saw NALD work with five other national literacy organizations to form the National Literacy Table, working together to improve literacy and essential skills levels in Canada.

Other highlights included upgrading of NALD’s technology infrastructure; business process improvements to several key NALD services; significant improvements to human resources practices and systems; and the formation of a partnership with The Conference Board of Canada that resulted in almost 40 new Conference Board research documents, including reports and best practice case studies, being posted to the NALD library.
