Learning Technologies in the Workplace Award Winner 2002: SaskTel (2002)

SaskTel has launched a number of initiatives to help its employees make full use of the new technologies that shape its business.
SaskTel is Saskatchewan’s leading full-service telecommunications company, employing more than 4,000 people in more than 50 communities throughout the province.
The company sees e-learning as a way to create more learning opportunities for employees, regardless of where in the province they are based, and to reduce overhead costs associated with traditional classroom-based training.
SaskTel’s programs include Insights, a five-course, online series designed to provide employees with a solid foundation in the principles of e-business and Internet usage. Online modules are supplemented by pre- and post-assessments, and by assignments that give participants immediate feedback.
The company also offers Managing the Business, a self-directed online course providing core training in strategic and financial management for SaskTel managers.
To support its learning initiatives, SaskTel offers employees interest-free loans to buy new computer equipment or upgrade existing hardware for home and family use, and provides them with a discount on monthly fees for Internet service.
