Child Care Worker: Preparation for Certification Program - A Journey to the Future (2012)

Presentation by PALN Project Team April 18, 2012

This presentation outlines a program developed by the Prince Albert Literacy Network (PALN) in Saskatchewan to help adults with low literacy skills prepare for careers in child care.

Aimed at level 1 and 2 learners, the Child Care Worker Preparation for Certification Program helps students prepare for an online test certifying them for child-care work. It grew out of the need for more level 1 and level 2 learning opportunities and the need to train and support entry-level childcare workers.

The presentation outlines the development of program and its rationale; program elements; program partners and supporters in the community; the program’s volunteer tutor component; transition to employment; supports and follow-up; and evidence-based best practices.
