A Guide to Apprenticeship Support Tools & Resources Available in Northern Ontario (2013)

This guide was developed for the project “Supporting Apprenticeship Completions: A Model of Service Provision.” Funded by Ontario’s Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities (MTCU), the project’s objective was to develop ways to help those who start apprenticeship programs in remote Northern Ontario communities to complete the programs and get their trade credentials.
The main part of the guide is divided into six sections. The first section offers general information about apprenticeships, while the second section focuses on information and referral resources for Literacy and Basic Skills (LBS) providers and other Employment Ontario providers.
In the third section, the focus is on assessment tools and online learning opportunities for potential and current apprentices, while the fourth section provides lists of resources related to training and learner plan development, and the fifth identifies supports that exist for potential and current apprentices.
The sixth section offers information for employers, unions, and other stakeholders in the apprenticeship system.
An additional section of the guide provides contact information for LBS programs available in Northern Ontario. The programs are broken down according to the three regional literacy networks: the Mid North Network; Literacy Northwest; and Literacy Northeast.
