Preparing for Carpenter Training (2009)

This document is designed to assess the readiness of anyone planning to enter the carpentry trade. It offers an opportunity to practise the skills of reading text, document use, and numeracy, and also provides a review of the math foundation skills that will be needed during technical training.

Anyone considering a carpentry career, applying to pre-apprenticeship training, or attending carpenter-training courses could use the assessment as a preview of the skills needed to do well in technical training, and as a means of identifying areas that need improvement.

The assessment is divided into three sections: math foundations; word problems; and problem sets. Once the individual completes the assessment, it is marked by an instructor, who makes recommendations based on the results.
