Assessor's Booklet: Reading – Level 1 (2013)

This booklet is part of a tool developed by HRSDC, now called Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), designed to enable career and employment counsellors to conduct informal Essential Skills (ES) needs assessments for their clients.

The first section of this assessor’s booklet contains instructions for administering the Level 1 client reading assessment booklet. The second section includes an introduction and detailed instructions for the client on the assessment process; answers and explanations for each assessment task; and a section where the assessor can record a client’s assessment results and observations.

Assessment questions in this module and in the others in the series are based on typical workplace tasks. For example, one question is based on a note from a teacher, explaining to the school custodian that a piece of classroom equipment is not working, and requesting that the item be fixed.
