Communication Skills – Instructional Resource (2012)

This instructor’s manual is part of the “Career – Life – Work” series produced by the NWT Literacy Council.

Employers rank communication ability as the most important skill they require in an employee, the author notes. Communication encompasses speaking, listening, oral presentations, working together as a team, and dealing with conflict. This section of the series incorporates these skills by using both personal and work-related examples and situations.

Topics covered include communicating with others; active listening; oral presentations; working with others; and dealing with conflict: definition of conflict.

The document includes handouts for learners and a variety of learning activities.

As well, there are two workbooks that go with this section, entitled “Soft Skills for Work” and “Dealing with Conflict.” They can be used with the section, or as stand-alone units.
