Storysacks Manual (2011)

Storysacks are resources that encourage parents and children to read together. A storysack usually contains a picture book, props or costumes for acting out the story, an audio recording of the story, a non-fiction book, and an idea card with suggested activities. Storysacks may also be based on oral stories and legends.
This manual explains how to make a storysack and includes information on choosing a book or oral story; selecting items for the storysack; and making the sack itself. The manual also includes a planning sheet; patterns and templates; and tips for parents.
The author notes that making storysacks requires people with a variety of skills, including knitting, sewing, woodworking, painting and drawing, and storytelling. It can be a good project for seniors’ groups, craft circles, parents’ associations, and other organizations.
