New Brunswick's Labour Force and Skills Development Strategy 2013 – 2016 (2013)

This document sets out a strategy for rebuilding the economy of New Brunswick by ensuring the availability of a skilled and globally competitive labour force.

The authors note that New Brunswick is facing challenges that cannot be solved quickly, including an aging population, a shrinking youth age group, a decreasing birth rate, and an adult literacy rate that limits employment options for some. Meeting these challenges requires partnerships not only within government, but with communities, industry, businesses, educators, and labour.

This action plan contains three strategic themes: supporting the education systems from kindergarten through postsecondary in order to prepare students adequately for labour force needs; support for learning and skills development; and the retention and attraction of highly skilled individuals.

The authors have listed priority actions to be taken under each of the three themes, and have described how success in attaining goals will be measured.

This strategic plan supports the province’s economic development strategy, entitled Growing Together, New Brunswick’s Economic Development Action Plan 2012-2016, which was released in 2012. To see the plan, click here: http://www2.gnb.ca/content/gnb/en/departments/economic_development/ecdev.html.
