Training Matters – Special edition (2011)

ABC Life Literacy Canada is a non-profit organization that supports lifelong learning. It publishes a report, entitled Training Matters, that profiles leaders and businesses that have initiated innovative training programs to promote workplace literacy and essential skills.
This issue features articles on a vegetable-processing plant in Prince Edward Island that opened a learning centre to help employees earn the General Education Development (GED) designation; a gas station and convenience store operated by a First Nations band in Saskatchewan; and the challenge of English as a Second Language (ESL) training in a multilingual workplace.
There is also an interview with the senior vice-president and chief economist for TD Bank Group, who discusses why businesses should invest in improving the skills of their employees.
