Literacy and Essential Skills Factsheets – Learner Rayburne Whynot (2012)

Prepared by Literacy Nova Scotia, this factsheet is one in a series sharing the experiences of adult learners.

This one features an older man who has always found reading and spelling a challenge. At work, he needed to achieve certification to keep his job, but he struggled with reading the manuals and found the course work very difficult. He decided to enrol in an adult learning program and, by upgrading his skills, was able to complete the training.

The factsheet also includes explanations of the nine Essential Skills, with examples provide for each one.
