Client's Booklet – Writing – Level 1 (2013)

This booklet is part of a tool developed by HRSDC, now called Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), to promote understanding of the Essential Skills (ES) needed for the workplace, and to help identify ES strengths and areas for improvement. Specifically, it is designed for use by an employment-counselling client to assess skill in writing at Level 1 complexity.

Each assessment question is based on a typical workplace task that involves writing. For instance, one features a receptionist at a travel agency who must leave a note explaining that a client will have to cancel a trip because of a family emergency.

Each question is open-ended, with space provided for the client to write the answer. Some include instructions on how long the answer should be.
