Work Ready Tools – Case Studies (2009)

The series Work Ready Tools was developed by the Centre for Canadian Language Benchmarks (CCLB) for use by human resources professionals working with immigrants seeking employment.

This document presents case studies of three immigrants who faced challenges in finding appropriate employment in Canada.

One case study features a man in his fifties who, despite extensive education and experience in his native Egypt, is unable to find a job in his field in Canada. The second case study focuses on a woman from Sudan who, after improving her English skills while caring for her children, is ready to enter the workforce. In the third, a teacher from Afghanistan must identify the skills he can transfer to a new career.

Each case study identifies the individual’s career objectives; discusses the resources available to help in each instance; and describes the outcomes and the lessons learned.
