Client Booklet: Numeracy – Level 1 (2013)

This booklet is designed for use by an employment counselling client to assess skills in numeracy at Level 1 complexity. It is part of a tool, developed by HRSDC, now called Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), to ensure workers have the Essential Skills to get the job done, and to inform training and career decisions.

The booklet contains instructions for completing the assessment, and a series of tasks based on typical workplace situations that require numeracy skills. For example, one involves a restaurant server calculating the total dollar value of coins received as tips.

The assessment is not a test, the authors point out. It is an opportunity for the client to identify strengths and weaknesses, and make decisions about further training and career plans.
