Client Booklet: Numeracy – Level 2 (2013)

This booklet is part of a tool developed by HRSDC, now called Employment and Social Development Canada (ESDC), that can be used to better understand the Essential Skills (ES) needed in the workplace. It is designed for use by a client to assess skills in numeracy at Level 1 complexity.

The booklet begins with a discussion of the meaning of numeracy, and instructions for doing the assessment.

Like the other materials in this tool, the booklet contains materials based on typical real-life work situations. For instance, one question deals with a kitchen helper who must calculate the amounts of ingredients that will be required if a recipe is halved.

The authors emphasize that the assessment is not a test, but an opportunity for the client to identify numeracy skill strengths, and areas that may need improvement, in order to make decisions about job skills training and job searches.
