Our Ocean Playground - A Nova Scotia History Manual (2001)

A Nova Scotia History Manual

This history manual is part of a project to empower adult learners. The material is enjoyable, educational, and makes learners part of the world. Nova Scotia history is a topic that should be accessible to all Nova Scotians and Canadians, regardless of their reading level. Many of the stories in the book were tested with adult learners in adult upgrading classes. Some of the stories were also contributed by learners. The manual covers many aspects of the region's history, from the Viking explorers, to the Mi'kmaqs, as well as explorers such as John Cabot, Jacques Cartier and Samuel de Champlain. The book also includes a small section on the Antigonish Movement, a very important event in the history of adult education in Canada. There are Comprehension and Trivia Questions after every section. For more information : Shelburne Historical Society, P.O. Box 39, Shelburne, NS B0T 1W0, Tel. (902) 875-3219.
