A PEI Literacy Alliance publication written in plain language dealing with the promotion of Family Literacy.

In Canada family literacy is community-based. Programs focus on the realities of individual communities and depend largely on local resources. These resources include people's time and commitment as well as funding. There are tremendous resources for family literacy in local communities.
The present document is a strategic plan for family literacy in PEI. It was prepared by the PEI Literacy Alliance, an umbrella organization of provincial groups with an interest in literacy. It is the policy of this organization to prepare all internal and external documents using the principles of plain language. The Alliance believes that material provided in plain language is accessible to most Islanders. This document includes definitions used in Family Literacy; Information on Strategic Planning; Relationship of this project to other projects and initiatives in PEI, etc.
