Exploring Tensions and Possibilities for Research in Practice: Notes towards a presentation! (2005)

Research in Practice Seminar - Edmonton, October 24th to 26th, 2005

In this document, the author raises a series of questions designed to prompt discussion about the nature of research in practice.

One set of questions focuses on control, including who controls the money in research; who controls the knowledge gained through research; and who decides what knowledge is considered valid and worthy.

Other questions focus on what counts as research; what is needed in terms of time, money, and ongoing support to encourage research; and what is needed to bring theory and practice together.

The author describes herself as living in the divide between the university world and practice, and eager to bridge the gap between the two.
