National Seminar on the Changing Workplace (1998)

Summary of Proceedings

The number and types of jobs available in the labour market and the nature of work itself has changed significantly significantly over the past two decades. For the past several years, the Canadian Labour Market and Productivity Centre (CLMPC) has examined the phenomenon of the changing world of work, focusing on Canadian workplaces and sectors. In October 1998, the CLMPC hosted a national seminar on the changing workplace, which brought together over 80 senior labour, business and government representatives from across Canada to examine and discuss the trends in the changing world of work.

This summary of proceedings follows the same basic structure as the seminar itself and includes the case studies presented at the seminar. The report is divided into the following four sections:
- New work arrangements
- Managing the aging workforce
- The European Union's response to the changing nature of work.
- Observations and Conclusions.
