Money Savers for New Parents: Tips for Raising Baby Without Breaking the Bank! (2009)

This is another in a series of free self-help guides prepared by Consolidated Credit Counselling Services of Canada. The authors focus primarily on the costs associated with baby’s first year, including buying baby equipment; comparing cloth and disposable diapers; and deciding on breastfeeding versus bottle-feeding.

The authors also include information to help new parents save money without compromising their child’s safety. For example, they caution parents to make sure that any second-hand crib purchased meets current safety standards and that any old furniture is free of lead-based paint.

As well, the authors discuss factors to consider in calculating the cost of child care.
