This English as a Second Language (ESL) activity kit, aimed at newcomers to Ontario, outlines some of the legal rights and responsibilities in the landlord-tenant relationship in that province. Students are expected to understand that it is important to get a receipt as proof that rent has been paid and that landlords are required to provide such a receipt if the tenant requests one. Language outcomes include requesting a receipt; filling out a cheque and a receipt; and getting information from short, very basic texts.
