Literacy Programs for Children: Grade 7 to 12 (2008)

Final Report

Between 2005 and 2008, Frontier College researched the impact of its Grade 7-12 tutoring programs in 13 towns and cities in Ontario. Information was collected through surveys, focus groups and interviews, and by examining academic data.

In this document, the authors share what was learned about the impact of the tutoring programs; the features of successful programs; how best to train volunteer tutors; and which students are most likely to benefit from the tutoring programs.

The authors note that tutoring programs are effective because a strong bond is established between the tutors and the students.
