TOWES and Literacy in Québec [Video - 4:37] (2011)

Why is it Necessary to Raise the Level of Essential Skills of Québec Adults?

This animated video, about four and a half minutes long, explains why improving essential skills can benefit both the individual and the economy.

The video explains that people with literacy levels of 1 or 2 face obstacles to employment, while those with a level 3 or higher are able to earn more money, work more safely, and find employment more quickly. Money invested in improving skills pays off by increasing productivity and stimulating growth in the Gross Domestic Product (GDP).

This video was produced by the Continuing Education department, Collège Lionel-Groulx (, based in Sainte-Thérèse, Quebec, in the Montreal area. It was published by Test of Workplace Essential Skills (TOWES), which is owned by Bow Valley College in Calgary, Alberta.
