PEI Trades Initiative: Assess Learning Where Learning Happens (2009)

This document describes Trade Essentials, a three-year research project funded by the Pan-Canadian Innovations Fund and the PEI Department of Innovations and Advanced Learning.

The goal of the project is to build Essential Skills (ES) and Technical Skills (TS) inventory tools; develop a contextualized curriculum for ES intervention; and come up with tools and a process to help apprentices get recognition for their prior learning.

The author says that the next step in the project is the development of a new tool specifically for assessing prior learning in trades, to be called Recognition for Skills and Learning (RSL).
