Guide to Effective Technologies and Tools for Providing Online Staff Training (2011)

This guide is the result of a research project undertaken by Community Literacy of Ontario (CLO) to find out more about effective technologies used for providing staff development and training both within the Employment Ontario delivery network and within the broader education and training sector.

The research involved interviewing representatives of about 50 organizations that were delivering some form of online training to staff and, in some cases, to broader groups of people. In addition, CLO reviewed print and web-based resources to find out more about online staff training opportunities and technologies.

The authors discuss the benefits and challenges of online staff training in general and then provide separate sections dealing with specific online tools that can be used for training, including blogs; online meetings and discussion groups; social networking; podcasts and mobile learning; and web conferences.

For each one, they provide a definition; specific examples, including web links; and a list of key resources for learning more about that online tool.

Community Literacy of Ontario is a network of more than a hundred literacy agencies located in communities, both large and small, across the province. To learn more about CLO, please click here: http://en.copian.ca/clo/.
