Literacy: The Velcro Effect [Video - 3:59] (2010)

This animated video, about four minutes in length, offers a lighthearted look at how literacy skills help make all types of learning “stick” and, in the process, make communities stronger.

Viewers are introduced to Everywhere City, where the community leaders all wear clothes made of Velcro. As other citizens improve their literacy skills, the Velcro component of their clothing increases and, in turn, more knowledge and skills stick to them.

The video’s narrator explains that while learning is the everyday acquisition of skills and knowledge, literacy is the part that makes it stick.
