Ready to Go: Training Materials for School Bus Drivers (2010)

This resource was developed to respond to Essential Skills training needs of immigrants who want to work in the transportation field. While the primary target group is those for whom English is a second language, the authors note that some would-be drivers whose first language is English also expressed a need for such training.

The authors have prepared a series of short practical group lessons, based on situations encountered by school bus drivers, with each lesson building on and reviewing content from the previous lessons in the unit.

Lessons assume that English as a Second Language (ESL) students have speaking and listening ability at Canadian Language Benchmark (CLB) level 6 and above; reading at CLB level 5 and above; and writing at CLB level 4 and above.

Audio files in MP3 for practising language skills can be obtained by contacting the Calgary Immigrant Women’s Association at http://www.ciwa-online.com.
