Communication in the Canadian Workplace: Part Two - Resolving Workplace Conflict [Video - 13:03] (2009)

This 13-minute video is part of a series prepared by Human Resources and Social Development Canada (HRSDC) to illustrate the importance of effective oral communication in a Canadian workplace. While the information it contains would be useful for anyone, it is aimed particularly at people who are new to Canada.

The video shows a young woman who is working as a server in a busy restaurant. She has trouble with the computer functions on the cash register and unsuccessfully calls upon an impatient co-worker for help.

The narrator explains the flaws in the young woman’s approach to the problem and then shows an alternate scenario that illustrates how the two co-workers could have dealt better with the situation.

While the primary focus is on the Essential Skill of oral communication, the video also illustrates the importance of computer skills and continuous learning.
