New Brunswick Aboriginal Workplace Essential Skills Curriculum: Course 7 (2010)

Exploring a Post-Secondary Institution

This document is part of the curriculum developed by the New Brunswick Aboriginal Workplace Essential Skills (NBAWES) project, which was designed to help Aboriginal adults improve their literacy skills and their employability. The project uses existing workplace Essential Skills curricula, adapted to meet the needs of Mi’kmaq and Maliseet adult learners.

The goal of this unit is to orient participants to a post-secondary institution so that they can describe the way in which a post-secondary institution is organized and the kinds of degrees and certificates it awards.

Specific activities include exploring admission requirements for specific programs at a community college; finding out about the undergraduate and graduate degrees available at a university; and learning how to enrol in a postsecondary institution.
