How To Kit - Learning in Everyday Life (2011)

The goal of Family Literacy Day, celebrated annually on January 27, is to raise awareness of the importance of reading and taking part in other literacy-related activities as a family.

This how-to kit provides schools and community groups with tips for organizing a family literacy event based on the theme chosen for 2012, "Learning in Everyday Life." The event is based on five "stations" that emphasize the opportunities for learning in day-to-day activities: laundry fun; grocery shopping fun; environmental print fun; everyday reading; and kitchen fun.

For each station, there are activity sheets containing word searches, matching games, pictures to colour, or age-appropriate recipes.

The authors have also included tips to help organizers plan an event and suggestions for ways parents can encourage literacy within the family.
