Western Quebec School Board Family Literacy Project
Parents have a very important role to play in their child's education. Help and encouragement are needed to develop a child's reading, writing and language skills. If you are new to parenting and have a baby or a pre-schooler at home, you will appreciate the information this booklet offers.
This booklet can be used by anyone who works and cares for children. While defining stages from birth up to nine years, suggestions are given to help children how to discover the love of reading. New Brunswick-based resources are also listed.
The positive impact the home has on learning is recognized and supported throughout this booklet. Families will see many familiar things they already do to develop interest in reading and writing as well as some new, exciting things to make reading and writing a part of everyday experiences.
The 'KinderStart' program is based on developmentally appropriate practices for the 3.8 to 4.5 year-old child, gradually moving from self-chosen play experiences
to small group experiences and directed activities. All domains of a child's
development are addressed with activities designed to support them.
This is the on-line edition of Readers` Magazine, developed for the children and parents of the elementary schools in Medicine Hat, by the Family Literacy Action Group (F.L.A.G.).
This guide is the result of the shared experiences over a two year period of four community based literacy programs which implemented and reviewed a variety of assessment procedures for family literacy evaluation.
This practical and informative resource guide for literacy practitioners was prepared for the National Literacy Secretariat and the Ontario Training and Adjustment Board.
