Sue Turner, on behalf of the Western Canada Workplace Essential Skills Training Network (WWestnet), welcomed delegates to taking it to the street: Incorporating Essential Skills Into Your Training Agenda.
The focus of Essential Skills and the Northern Oil and Gas Workforce was on effective training with a particular emphasis on the role of essential skills enhancement in the development of the northern workforce. It was hoped that this conference would help to raise awareness of essential skills and provide a jumping off point for increased essential skills integration in education and workplace training programs.
This final report and resource guide will give you an overview of what took place during the "Destination Integration" conference on February 26 to 28, 2003.
Participants spent several hours networking with colleagues and counterparts, learning about the various essential skills initiatives occurring at colleges and training institutes across western and northern Canada.
The Innovations in Workplace Literacy and Learning: 4th Atlantic Region Workplace/ Workforce Institute was held at the Fairmont Newfoundland Hotel in St. John's, Newfoundland and Labrador in October 2003. The Institute was hosted by the Literacy Branch of the Department of Education, Government of Newfoundland and Labrador in partnership with the Governments of
New Brunswick, Nova Scotia and Prince Edward Island.
In order for New Brunswickers to benefit from the Adult and Lifelong Learning stepping stone, the government of NB will work with its partners to achieve the following six objectives:
I. Increase Participation Levels in Adult and Lifelong Learning in New Brunswick
II. Improve Literacy Skills of Adults in New Brunswick
This discussion paper focuses on the issue of testing as part of the process of assessing learners in workplace literacy programs.
The author uses a technical test review to analyze seven assessment tools that have been used in workplace programs. Each instrument is described in terms of the test content, the description of scores, and the test development process.
