This booklet is part of the Newcomers Finances series produced by Ottawa Community Loan Fund (OCLF). The worksheets cover a range of banking matters, including opening an account; cashing a government cheque; making deposits and withdrawals; direct deposit; preauthorized debits; Internet and telephone banking; banking fees; and dealing with banking problems. Each section includes step-by-step descriptions of each banking activity.
The manual is designed for teachers in adult language classes or workers at settlement agencies. These instructors are not expected to be experts on financial matters.
Among the topics addressed are banking, credit, income tax, government support programs, investments, insurance and fraud.
The author explores the differences and the links between formal, non-formal and informal learning. Formal learning is intentional, organized and structured and is often arranged by an institution. Non-formal learning may or may not be intentional and arranged by an institution but it is at least loosely organized. Informal learning is never organized and is thought of as spontaneous and related to experience.
Report on a Series of Community Knowledge-Exchange Meetings
The report grew out of consultations held during the first six months of 2008 in Atlantic Canada. Immigrants were asked to discuss their experiences with adult learning since coming to Canada.
