Canadian Adult Literacy Facts (2012)

This document is one of series of fact sheets prepared by Literacy Newfoundland and Labrador.

The authors point out that while few people are unable to read at all, many have literacy levels that are lower than what is required to function effectively in today’s world.

Strong literacy skills are linked to better jobs, better health, and greater social engagement.

This lesson plan is geared to ESL (English as a Second Language) professionals in medicine, health care, social work or teaching. The lesson task, prepared by ESL teachers, is to complete a client progress report following documentation guidelines. This task builds on skills the learner already has such as knowledge of medical terminology and experience with how to report and record data for a multidiscipline health team.

State of the Field Report for Health and Adult Learning (2007)

The Adult Working Group, the author of this report, is a committee of the Health and Learning Knowledge Centre. The purpse of this report is to make generalizations about the existing literature, both practitioner-based and academic, related to the health and learning of adults. This report also identifies gaps in this literature and makes recommendations with respect to promising lines of inquiry for the future.
