Summary of a Workshop Presented at the 7th Annual Conference of Adults Learning Mathematics
This is the report of a workshop that explored the differences between measuring skill-based numeracy (using math in school) and function-based numeracy (using math in real life). Workshop participants discussed how these different approaches to "learning outcomes" can affect the curriculum for teaching adult numeracy.
This resource could be used with students who have a problem in reading comprehension, or problem solving. It will give students a working relationship with a reading/math strategy that can be transferred to other reading necessary for the workplace or other study.
This guide is intended to teach students in literacy programs about income taxes. It helps learners understand about taxes, forms to use to pay taxes, and services provided by the government to low income tax payers. The guide was written for Level 2 learners in Ontario, but much of it will be useful to others.
