This document contains a list of books, web sites and other learning tools that an adult literacy tutor would find useful. The resources have been organized according to subject such as math, early readers, spelling, etc. The Halifax Community Learning Network compiled this list of resources after hosting a series of Tutor Learning Circles in 2007.
“Walking Alongside” was designed to explore how youth and adults can work together to make change in community. It grew out of the author's work as an adult practitioner supporting youth engagement in Hazelton, BC and her questions of how best to fill this role.
In light of the current and looming shortage of nurses in Canada, The Nursing Strategy for Canada was developed to strengthen and maximize nursing human resources by implementing broad, planned evidence–based and long–term recruitment and retention initiatives. Within that strategy, the Canadian Nursing Advisory Committee (CNAC) was established to make recommendations for improving the quality of work life for Canadian nurses.
This article discusses the author's difficulty in finding reports and additional commitments regarding the September 2000 National Literacy Summit steering committee's Action Agenda for Literacy in a report entitled "From the Margins to the Mainstream".

Whenever a door is opened, a blast of cold air rushes in, raising an icy fog. Living at 40 below is like living inside the worlds largest freezer.

The Vancouver Public Library has compiled a colourful list of books for new readers that includes novels, poetry and humour. There is also a section for young people as well as recommended magazines and websites. Something for everyone!
