A coalition of ten national organizations concerned with literacy met in 1987 at Cedar Glen, a conference centre north of Toronto, to develop a policy statement on literacy. CCLOW participated in this endeavor and assisted in creating the Cedar Glen Declaration. The complete text of the declaration is presented here, in both English and French.
This clearly written handbook on how adult learners can get involved in their literacy program is illustrated with photographs from East End Literacy`s programs.
There is a balance of graphics, photographs and white space. The large print makes the book accessible to learners. Lots of quotes from students who became active at East End Literacy give the book a very personal quality.

This booklet contains articles about literacy that originally appeared in newspapers across Canada during September, 1987. Many are based on the extensive findings of a national literacy survey of 2,398 Canadian adults commissioned by Southam Inc.
