Curriculum Development

The New Brunswick Department of Education supports the inclusion of children with exceptional needs into the regular classroom setting. The inclusion of these children however presents certain challenges for teachers. The Department of Education has developed this document in order to assist NB teachers to develop teaching plans that meet the needs of the diverse learners in their classrooms.

In seeking innovative learning practices, this project was particularly devoted to increasing knowledge of education programs that address systemic barriers related to class, age, gender, sexual orientation, race and cultural background, disability, literacy, language, lack of formal education as well as barriers faced by workers in small or remote areas, by part-time workers, by shift workers.

This portfolio assessment initiative has several lists of goals for students and teachers. It includes:
- personal goals
- reading progress checklist
- listening and speaking progress checklist
- writing progress checklist and,
- mathematics progress checklist

Academic Upgrading programs are moving forward on the One Stop initiative in a variety of ways. Phase 1 of the Provincial Models of Program Integration project showed considerable activity between Academic Upgrading programs and a whole range of college and community programs, services and service organizations available to them.

Like a tool kit or handbook this guide offers activities, resources, and suggestions to help you increase literacy learning opportunities for adults with physical and/or intellectual disabilities.

The guide is for instructors, tutors and coordinators in adult literacy programs and support workers and coordinators in disabilities and rehabilitation programs and organizations.
