Since 2008, Literacy Nova Scotia (LNS) has celebrated International Adult Learners’ Week (IALW) with a writing contest that represents the culmination of a series of workshops held around the province. The contest is open to workshop participants, as well as learners from other adult learning, English as a Second Language (ESL), seniors’, and workplace programs.

Among Our Souvenirs: A Collection of Cape Breton Poetry and Prose from The Sydney Writing Circle (2008)

This is a collection of prose and poetry written by members of the Sydney Writing Circle, a group supported by the Adult Learning Association of Cape Breton County (ALACBC) in Nova Scotia. The group met for two hours each week to share their writing and improve their writing skills.

The Voices of the Reading & Writing Center (2010)

This document features the poetry and prose of adult learners at the Reading and Writing Centre of the Cowichan Campus of Vancouver Island University in British Columbia.

The student writers chose their best work for the collection. The stories and poems were written and edited over weeks or months, and some students also added pictures to accompany their writing.

The collection includes stories, poems, and some artwork. The contributions cover a broad range of topics, including personal experiences, hobbies, social issues, and history.

This is the 13th edition of “Our Side of the Mountain.”

Write On! Student Literature: Expressing our thoughts and opinions - Issue 7 (2012)

This is an annual publication that showcases writing by adult learners at Literacy Unlimited, a community organization based in the Montreal suburb of Pointe Claire.

This year, all learners were invited to submit a piece about a “first” that they had experienced. Their responses include descriptions of the first day on a new job, the birth of a child, and the first time playing softball.

Journeys: Yearbook 2012 (2012)

This is a collection of writings by adult learners taking part in programs offered by the Halifax Community Learning Network (HCLN), a non-profit organization serving that region of Nova Scotia.

Much of the writing revolves around the theme of journeys, in both the literal and figurative senses of the word. One learner wrote about a trip to Toronto, while others have written about their journeys to learning.
